My journey into stained glass started with mosaics. At that time, I had just finished teaching Interior Design at James Madison University. Feeling bored and in need of an outlet, I discovered that working with mosaics allowed me the freedom to experiment creatively. Throughout the years, I contemplated enrolling in a stained-glass class but struggled to find the time or the right program. My aspiration was to create panels, windows, and transoms—not the typical suncatchers or holiday-themed items. Instead, I envisioned BIG, bold, and vibrant designs that would serve as authentic artwork in people’s windows, doors, and light fixtures. My creations would eventually evolve to embody my Interior Design background along with a profound appreciation for architectural styles. It was my husband, Robert, who proposed that I take a class after our return to Richmond, Virginia over two decades ago. Which I eagerly jumped at the opportunity and found the perfect one!
Since that time, I have produced hundreds of pieces. Admittedly, some of these have included cutesy holiday-themed creations; after all, the cost of glass and materials must be covered somehow, right? However, my true passion lies in the larger projects inspired by life’s myriad of influences and my personal passions. My favorite pieces are those developed through collaboration with clients, resulting in unique, one-of-a-kind works tailored especially for them. It’s amusing how this process closely mirrors my experience as an Interior Designer. As both artist and designer, the pieces are crafted for the client while allowing a touch of my artistic vision to shine through!
